Telereal Trillium is the largest privately owned real estate company in the United Kingdom, and its CEO Graham Edwards has been its Chief Operating Officer since the creation of Telereal, in 2001. The range of their commercial real estate development and investment activities is impressive, and so is the sheer scale of the numbers. They are just one company, yet their properties house 1% of the UK’s workforce.
Edwards organized the transfer of 6,700 properties worth 2.1 billion pounds from British Telecom to Telereal. Telereal was formed to buy this property portfolio from British Telecom and hold it as a joint venture with William Pears Ltd. Telereal then continued to expand by buying the BBC’s portfolio of properties. Telereal went on to manage properties for Airwave and O2. William Pears bought the other 50% of the company’s ownership.
In 2008 Telereal bought Trillium from Land Securities for 750 million pounds, making Telereal Trillium. Edwards led the negotiations that led to this epic accomplishment. By November 2010, Telereal Trillium was one of the top companies in the United Kingdom receiving government payments for the properties services they provided to the government. The firm manages such properties as the Royal Mail, Birmingham City Council, the Department for Work and Pensions, and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency. It also manages Barclays Bank and Norwich Union.
It owns or manages 8,000 properties across the United Kingdom, which amounts to 86 million square feet. Its portfolio is worth 6 billion pounds. And annual revenues are over 1 billion pounds.
Edwards graduated from the University of Cambridge, reading Economics, and he lives in London, England. He’s also served as fund manager for Merrill Lynch Investment Manager and as the head of finance for the Property Department of the BT Group Plc. He belongs to such professional groups as the Association of Corporate Treasurers, the UK Society of Investment Professionals and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. Edwards is also a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
Before heading up Telereal, Edwards served as Chief Investment Officer of Talisman Global Asset Management. He established Talisman as a registered asset management arm of Pears FSA.
