OSI Group, a leading global food provider, is headquartered in Aurora, Illinois with manufacturing facilities in 17 countries spread across North America, Asia-Pacific, and Eastern and Western Europe. It is modest beginning in 1909 as a local meat market in Oak Park, Illinois witnessed immense growth, and within a decade operations as a wholesale meat supplier commenced. From 1955 to late 1960s it was McDonald’s primary supplier of ground beef patties and other customized meat products.
Later, development of Cryogenic Food Processing enabled supply of processed meat to supermarkets and specialty meat to restaurants. Presently, it manufactures food for several popular brands including Starbucks, KFC, Subway and Papa John’s Pizza, and co-packs food for its Foodservice and Retail customers.
OSI Group specializes in creating custom food solutions by combining exceptional culinary skills and extensive knowledge of global flavor preferences. In fact, OSI is singlehandedly responsible for setting the global standard for meat production. It deals with eatables like sausages, patties, hot dogs, seafood, pizzas, poultry products, cheese products and limited vegetables and fruits. While OSI’s award-winning research facilities are cutting edge, its manufacturing facilities boast state-of-the-art design. Together, these ensure outstanding food quality assurance practices.
In August 2016, OSI acquired Baho Food a Dutch company specializing in deli meats, snacks and convenience foods for retail segments and food services. Baho catered to customers in 18 countries through processing plants in the Netherlands and Germany.
President and COO of OSI Group, David G. McDonald stated that inclusion of Baho Food exponentially increased their presence in Europe. Since its products and brands complement OSI’s portfolio adding Baho allowed them to evolve and meet their customers’ requirements, he added.
Baho Food’s management team and managing director were retained to spearhead a growth strategy for this merged business. John Balvers, M.D. of Baho Food stated that this merger gave them greater capacity to broaden product portfolio and realize shared goals. Earlier in 2016 OSI purchased Chicago based Tyson Food Company.
In February 2016, Sheldon Lavin, CEO, and chairman of OSI received the Global Visionary Award. It is under Lavin’s leadership that OSI evolved from a humble domestic food company to a multi-billion global food processor. This same year, its UK branch won the prestigious Globe of Honour Award for excellent environmental management abilities and sustainable operations. Only organizations which place environmental protection on an equal footing as safety and health are considered by the British Safety Council. OSI Group, operational in the UK since 1989, previously received this award in 2013 and 2015. Evidently, OSI’s success saga continues.
