Susan McGalla on Women in Leadership

Susan McGalla is an executive consultant from Pittburgh, Pennsylvania. McGall is best known for her roles as president of American Eagle Outfitters and chief executive officer of Wet Seal Inc. McGalla is a former trustee of the University of Pittsburgh, sits on the boards of HFF Inc and the Magee-Womens Hospital Research Institute and Foundation and is the director of Allegheny Conference on Community Development.

McGalla has an impressive resume and is now taking her experience to others through P2 Executive Consulting LLC as an expert to clients on branding, marketing, talent management, operational efficiencies, and many other managerial tasks. She speaks specifically to women about being a strong woman and getting ahead in leadership and does individual consulting as well as speaking to many audiences.

McGalla was raised in a household with two older brothers and a football coach father who did not cut her slack because she was a girl. She was encouraged to work hard and speak with confidence from a young age. McGalla attributes much of her success to being equally comfortable with men and women. Working well with both men and women served her especially well when she began with American Eagle, a predominantly male company with no women in c-suite or board positions. Given the opportunities, McGalla was able to excel and take control of her career. She has since transitioned to helping others do the same- not attempting to “break the glass ceiling”, but contributing and becoming the successful through their contributions regardless of their sex. Gender should not play a role, passion and contribution should be the leading contributor to success and McGalla is pleased to be able to team with her clients and audiences to help them become the best version of themselves as women leaders.
